Teaching in EYFS

As from next term, instead of Reception class coming into the hall twice a week for music with me, I am going into their classroom to do a 'focus activity' with a small number of children for some of the lessons. I am at a loss to know what I am supposed to be doing with them that is different from what I am doing now (singing, percussion, rhythm work, creative, movement etc). What do other EYFS music teachers do ?

From what you've said, it sounds like you going to their environment rather than them coming to you, and in a smaller group of children which means it is easier to be more child centered. Singing games and rhymes I would say. If you need any suggestions, let me know!

How about doing a sound map of the school. Using a hand held digital recorder the children can collect sounds from around the school then you could get the children to create a chant or word rhythm introduction to the audio clip. You could also get them to create a linking 'Promenade' as you progress around the school. Doors, steps etc could be indicated by instrument sounds.
If you're up for it you could work with your IT people to create and interactive school map! Loads of fun and you can link it with a variety of music to listen to.
