Literacy addressed at the beginning of each Music Module
At the beginning of each Music Module in Key Stage 3, students complete a worksheet called 'Never Heard the Word Sheet'.
- The teacher reads out the word
- The student places a tick or a cross next to the word to indicate whether they have heard it before
- The teacher then gives the student the definition of the word
- The student writes in the definition of the word.
I repeat this worksheet at the end of the module as well. It is a good way of showing progression in literacy through Music.
I first designed this worksheet three years ago and have recently updated them to include pictures and more space for the student to write the definitions in.
